Dentures (Full and Partial)
If you are missing some or all of your teeth, dentures provide an option for restoring your smile and mouth function. Modern removable prosthetics are a good solution that can be tailored to your individual dental needs.
At Creekside Family Dental, we offer our patients both full and partial dentures depending on each case.
What Are Full and Partial Dentures?
A set of full dentures is a removable prosthetic device that replaces a full set of teeth. A conventional denture includes a pink part to mimic gums, which holds false teeth that give the look of the real thing. Our dentist, Dr. Will Leffler, provides a custom piece that is perfectly fitted to your mouth. This type of denture stays in place through proper fit and suction. Dr. Leffler may recommend denture adhesives if needed to make it extra secure.
Partial dentures are also removable false teeth, yet they fill in a few missing teeth rather than a whole set. This type also has a pink part that holds realistic false teeth. It attaches differently than the full dentures by using a metal framework that connects to your natural teeth.
How Does the Denture Creation Process Work?
Our office uses the latest in dental technology, so we are able to scan your mouth through digital imaging rather than making a yucky, uncomfortable impression. In addition to providing a better process, our scans give more accuracy. We send the images to a lab, where your custom-fitted partial or full dentures are created.
When our office receives the completed dentures, we have you come in for a fitting. During this appointment, we check for the right fit and provide adjustments if needed. Our scans and the fitting appointment ensure your dentures stay in place, give you full functionality and are comfortable to wear.
If you find the dentures difficult to adjust to at first, our office gives you the option of Botox injections. These calm the surrounding muscles for increased comfort until you get used to your new prosthetics.
Are Dentures the Right Choice for Me?
When you have teeth missing, you may have a few options for filling the teeth and restoring your mouth. Our office is committed to informing you of your options and leaving the decision up to you. We are here to help compare your options so you can feel good about your choice.
Dentures offer a good solution when you’re missing numerous teeth or all of your teeth on one or both jawbones. Partial or full dentures can be used depending on your situation. Modern dentures are comfortable with an improved look and fit compared to dentures of the past. Plus, this solution is affordable and does not require surgery.
Bridges give another option, but they are best for patients who are missing one to two teeth, while they can work for up to four lost teeth. Dentures are a better option when many teeth are gone.
Another option is to receive dental implants, which is a procedure that places fake tooth roots into the jawbones and gums to permanently support tooth replacements. Nonetheless, removable dentures may be better in certain cases, such as for those who need a more affordable option, who want to avoid surgery or who are not candidates for implants. Alternatively, there is also the option of permanent implant supported dentures, which Dr. Leffler can discuss with you if you are a candidate.
